THE RAILWAY STATION.

(To the Editor.l Sir, —".Aussie," recently writing to your paper, considers that if we had followed Sydney's example we should not have placed the station behind the post office. May I be permitted to remind him that the position was reversed, and I maintain it was a great want of foresight, in reducing the length of the platform, to ' permit the location of the post offioe. ' How much more convenient it would be to-day to have all platforms abutting on to the street pavement, with (.lie respective names of departures ar>d arrivals placed overhead. However, as it stands, could not some means of enlarging the present site be arrived at, eithrr by constructing a second sta\:o - j overhead for lighter trailis or taking in ' additional property alongside, even :n . including the present Quay Street, and arrange for the harbour alignment being carried out. The shifting of the station '. as proposed is a most retrograde action, and should be strenuously opposed !jy the travelling public.—l am, etc.. ARTHUR CUMMINGS.
