DEVONPORT BUSINESS MEN.
A meeting of the Waitentata Chamber of Commerce was held in Ford's Rooms, Devonport, laet night. Mr. Wilber.t Marke presided. A resolution was carried expressing satisfaction that the Main Highways Board had recognised the importance of proclaiming the East Coasr Road a niain highway, and it was decided to send a copy of the resolution to the chairman of the Highways Board and the Prime Minister. A lengthy: discussion took place on the question of the transference of the electricity department of the Borough Council to the Waitemata Power Board. THe opinion was expressed that as. the ratepayers had sanctioned the loans, amounting.to £61,000, which had brought the concern to its present efficierit etate, it was only right, before the ratepayers were aeked to sign a petition representing 25 per cent of their number, sanctioning the change, full details of the agreement should be placed, before a public meeting at an early date.
