"COLD AND HUNGRY."
A DIVE INTO THE LAKE,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
HAMILTON, this day.
A young fellow who caused a sensation on Saturday evening by diving into the lily pond in evident desire to end his life, and was rescued in a state of collapse, came before Mr. Young, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court to-day, to give an account of his folly. SeniorSergeant Sweeney said that in his opinion accused was somewhat under the influence of liquor at the time. A doctor, who attended him stated that had he not been rescued when he was he would have been dead within half an hour. Accused explained that he had been out of work for some time, and being tired of tramping around hungry and cold decided to make an end of things. He was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months, his name being suppressed.
