A CUSTOMS COUP. (Received 2 p.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The Customs Department made a sensational coup, seizing £10,000 worth of diamonds and jewellery, alleged to have been smuggled, and arrested a man described as a jewel merchant. — (A. and N.Z. Cable.) A DIAMOND MERGER. CORNERING THE CARBON. (Received 2 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 4. J. P. Morgan and Co. deny the London story that they are partners in a new diamond merger, including the Bunkle and Buckler interests in Germany, and Barnato's. It appears, however, that there is some truth in the statement that a great trust is being formed to control ninety per cent of the world's output of diamonds, handling the production of the Jaegersfontein fields for the next five years.— (" Sun " Cable.)
