AUCKLAND MANAGEMENT
COMMITTEE.
BROWN SHIELD CHALLENGE
The Management Committee of the A.F.A. met last night. Present: Messrs. F. M. Ritchie (chairman), Adams, D.o.wnie, Fraser, Grlbble (treasurer), Dawson- (secretary), and life members.
The chairman reported that the district final of the Chatham Cup. Pukeniiro -v.. Ponsonby, had been definitely fixed for August 15 at Huntly. It was reported that Hilton (Chelsea)' could not make the journey to Whangarei on Saturday, and Roberts (Hellab'y's) was nominated to fill the vacancy. Crocker (Londoners) notified that he could not travel on Saturday. The matter of final* ising all arrangements for the team was left in the hands of Mr. H. Reason, arid he was appointed manager. The South Auckland. Association wrote in regard to the Chatham Cup district final, outlining the arrangements which could be made for the match, Ponsonby v. Pukemiro. Mr. Kennedy (Ponsonby), reported that the club had decided to make the journey by motor bus. It was asked that any followers wishing to journey to Huntly reserve space with Mr. H. Robinson, Belgian Lounge. It was decided to recommend the South Auckland Association that the game commence at 2.30 p.m. Tamaki United P.C. aeked permission to play a curtain .raiser with a South. Auckland team at a date "to be arranged. The matter was referred to the Grounds Committee. The Thistle Club suggested that the Falcon Cup ties be redrawn. The Grounds Committee reported that owing to the Ponsonby and Thistle Clubs, which were drawn in the first round of the Kftlcou Cup, having remained in the Chatham Cup, and owing to Ponsonby probably being engaged for two further Saturdays after next week, it was decided by the meeting that the first round of the Falcon Cup be redrawn. Brown Shield Match. Arrangements were discussed and finalised for the Brown Shield challenge match against Wellington on Saturday. The curtain raiser will be Wellington Technical v. Auckland Technical; referee, Mr. G. 1 , . Lee. Mr. Bannister reported that owing to lmving been called from the city, he would reluctantly have to resign the managership of the team. He reported that Brittain was injured" yesterday, and the eelectors had decided that Pickett (Ponsonby) fill the vacancy, McElligott (Tramways) to act as reserve. The meeting expressed regret at Mr. Bannister's absence, and Mr. A. Fraser was appointed manager in place of Mr. Bannister. It was reported that the team was in regular training and each member in the best of. condition. The Wellington team will arrive on Friday morning and a full programme of entertainment for the visitors was outlined . and adopted. Boys' Committee. Mr. F. M. Ritchie presided over a iarge attendance at the Boys' Committee meeting. The chairman reported that he had not received definite information regarding- the school teams which would be coming from Wellington on Friday nest. It was proposed to play a curtain raiser to the Brown Shield match between Wellington College and Auckland Technical team. Mount Albert Grammar School asked for a match with one of the Wellington teams and the meeting decided to leave the arrangement of a fixture with Mount Albert to the chairman. The chairman, secretary and Mr. Telford were appointed a committee to meet and entertain the boys while in the city.
Regarding the fourth grade competition, Mr. Hankin reported that the A section 'had been Avon by Newton and the B by Ponsonby.
It was decided to play off the match for the championship of the fourth grade on Saturday; and to play the ordinary, fifth, sixth, and--'seventh grade competition games. Mr. Hankin stated that it would not be possible to commence the knock-out competitions this week owing to the scarcity of grounds and referees. The meeting discussed a notice of motion by Mr. Harrison to definitely establish a seventh grade competition with an age and weight limit or both-; Mr. Banlantyne suggested that limits Ix! 13 years of age and sft high limit instead of a weight limit. This was unanimously agreed to, and it was decided that these conditions govern the knock-out competition this year. It was reported that the Primary School reps, would play at Huntly on Saturday, and the hope was expressed that the game would further the efficiency of th* team for the tournament at Wellington.
