BOWLING.

THE ENGLISH TOURISTS.

THEIR ITINERARY FIXED

(By TRUNDLER.)

The bowlers of Hamilton are apparently going to make an effort to be included in the itinerary of the English bowlers next summer, but Mr. Melbourne Ovchard, who arranged the tour, 6tates that no alterations can be made, and the wording of his letter to a friend in Sydney seems to imply that the itinerary is definitely fixed in order that they may always be in prompt communication by cable with their friends and business connections at Home. It is therefore a pleasure to be able to assure our Hamilton friends that they are to have the distinguished tourists for a day and a-half. No official communication has reached Auckland, but the itinerary has been published in Sydney; and also in two Wellington papers. None of them, however, give the information which will probably be of most information to their hosts, viz., the time spent in each locality, and it is not always very easy to get this exactly, without more definite information as to whether they arrive and leave in the morning, afternoon or evening. After consideration of the probable hour of arrival and departure,' and allowing for the Sundays, the following table gives the time in each place correctly within half a day: — Arrive. Depart. Stay. rpertli Oct. 27 Oct. 31 3 days Adelaide Nov. 2 Nov. 6 4,, Melbourne Nov. 7 Nov. 18 9 „ Sydney Nov 19 Nov. 30 10 „ ■Brisbane Doc. 1 Dec. 7 5,, Sydney Dec. S Dec. 11 3 Auckland Dec. 15 Dec. 21 4J „ New Plymouth Dee. 22 Dec. 23 1 Wanganul Dec. 23 Dec. 26 2J ■Falmerston... Dec. 20 Dec. 28 $ „ Napier Dec. 28 Dee. 31 2 „ 'Wellington... Dec. 31 Jan. 4 ■'. „ Nelson .... Jan. 3 Jan. 7 2,, Westport Jan. 7 Jan. 8 — „ Christchurch.. Jan. S Jan. 14 4 „ Timaru Jan. 14 Jan. 15 i „ Oamaru Jan. 15 Jan. 1C J ~ Dunedin Jan. Iβ Feb. 1 12J „ Invercargill... Feb. 1 Feb. 4 2J Christchurch.. Feb. 4 Feb. 5 1,, "Wellington... Feb. 0 Feb. 7 1,, Te Kuiti Feb. 8 Feb. 9 li Hamilton Feb. 9 Feb. 11 1* „ Botorua Feb. 11 Feb. 27 — It is very, strange that none of the three- papers which have given the itinerary have pointed out the obvious error in Mr. Orchard's list, where he makes them leave Sydney on December 9, and. arrive in Auckland on Sunday, the 13th. Nor do they correct him when he makes them sail for New Plymouth on the following Sunday. That used to be the.? time-table, but Mr. Orchard is apparently not aware of the alterations that have been made on these two routes, and in the above list the dates are corrected to fit iii with the present steamer service. v

With regard to the dates for Eotorua, their departure and further movements cannot be definitely given yet, but they leave New Zealand by the Tainui on or about February 27, and this will probably mean that they will spent the last few days in Auckland or Wellington, according to which.- is the last port of call.

It seems that the bowlers of Coromanalso' hope for a visit from the English tourists, but it will be seen that this is quite impossible, seeing that there will be only four ana a-half days to visit as many clubs as possible in the city and suburbs.

In' the meantime it may be mentioned that, in a letter from Mr. Orchard, he explained that, although the itinerary was fixed, it was left for the local people at each centre visited to make all the arrangements for entertaining them while there. It will probably be found tbftt the chief difficulty here will be to select nine clubs out of the many in Auckland, who would like to see the English' visitors, unless this is overcome by dividing them into two sections, in "which case they could "Visit four clubs each .day.

The following team will represent Carlton in their match at Devpnport on Saturday against the holders of the Edwin Stars: J. Clarkson, K. Wishart, W. Ball, T. Watson.

The meeting of delegates last night made the interesting decision to incorporate a four-rink championship with the pennant matches during the coming season. The position was made quite clear by Mr. A. E. Whitten, who explained, this scheme on behalf of Mr. Sremner, that its introduction could not possibly be detrimental to any club, as they all had three options, to enter for the four-rink only, for the pennant only, or for both. He achieved a distinct tactical victory by taking strong exception to any club voting against it on the; ground that they did not wish to -enter, and maintained that in the caee of.all clubs objecting to the scheme for themselves, their proper procedure was .to leave the course open for those who did approve of it, seeing that its adoption would do them no harm. What will appeal to all bowlers as the greatest success of the whole evening, was the hint that by this slight modification of the scheme originally brought in by Mr. T. R. Keesing, when he was secretary of the Mount Eden Club, all the clubs in the city and suburbs will take part during the coming season, This will be a great Improvement on previous years, where some stayed out. and others only entered from a sense of loyalty to the rest. Sow that this four-rink championship is included, there does not seem any reason why some of the more distant clubs should not enter for this branch only, such as Pukekohe, Waiuku and Papakura, for if the representatives of these clubs take up the matter at once, they could easily find enough clubs willing to exchange a couple of rinks with these more distant localities. Further details of this innovation will appear in the Sports Edition on Saturday
