N.Z. LEAGUE TEAM.
1 , s FIRST MATCH TO-DAT. AGAINST NEW SOUTH WALES. The New Zealand team of League footballers how in Australia will open their tour this afternoon in Sydney against New South Wales, and the result of the match will be awaited with interest in Auckland. With an accepted invitation to tour England next season it will be recognised that much depends upon the record established by the team now in Australia, and supporters of the code in the Dominion are confldentally looking forward to the New Zealanders proving that the standard of play here ia quite on a par with the best in the Commonwealth. The team selected to represent the Dominion to-day appears to be a strong one, but it is noticeable that the whole of' the backs are Auckland©™, and . neither Saunders nor Parkes has been included. However, in the forwards the South Island is represented by a quartet, add they are a solid lot who should be able to hold their own against any 'opposition. On tho other hand there is a want of speed in the backs which trill make itself felt, and if our men go under to-day it will be because of this and not to any fault on the part of the forwards. The team is as follows:— Full-back: C. Dufty. Three-quarters: 1. Brown, F. Delgrosso, J. Kirwau. Five-eighths: M. Wether ill, H. B. Laing. Half: S. Webb. Forwards: :S. Lowry, J. O'Brien, J. Ellis, H. Avery, N. Mouatt, F. Henery.
