With his wife, deceasej moved to the Waikato shortly aften and for many years was manager f0"..; the well-known Te Awamutu settler, thi late Mr. William Taylor, of "Greenhill.' After severing his connection with th* "Greephill" estate, Mr. McGivern too. up a farm on his own account, which hi conducted successfully until advancing years necessitated his retirement, whet he went to reside in Auckland. . did not take an active part in publi. affairs, but was much esteemed ans widely, respected. , . i OLD ALBERTLAND SETTLER, j ~~ i . (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) i PAPAROA, this day. [>: The death occurred at Dargaville o_j Tuesday last of Mr. S. B. F. Cooksey * one of the pioneer settlers of Matakohej and resident for many years in Mata* kohe, Northern Wairoa. He was in hi| 85th year. Mr. Cooksey was a passenger to New Zealand by the Matilda Wattenbach, which, with the Hanoven. the first two of- the of vessels coni - v --- ---veying Albertland Noncomformist set. tiers to the colony, left England o4 May 29, 1862. He carried on businesj for many years as a carpenter an<! builder, and enjoyed remarkably health till old age. He was a menibel of the Methodist Church, and wai widely known and respected. He is sun vived by a brother, Mr. E. Cooksey, o| Matakohe, and two sons, Mr. Nesbif Cooksey, of Auckland, and Mr. Thomaj Cooksey, of Dargaville. His wife pr» deceased him many years.
