ROBBED WHILE ASLEEP.

MISSING WATCH AND CHAIN. LABOURER CHARGED WITH THEFT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, this day. The robbing of a man, who fell asleep on tbe Hamilton station in January, 1923, of a watch chain and a, sovereign ca*e. led to a Hibernian, one Pat Clancy, about 3.5 years of age, appearing before Mr. Justice Hcrduian and a common jury at the Suprenia Court, Hamilton, charged with tha theft of the articles. Prisoner wa» represented by Mr. U. Seymour.

Mr. 11. T. Gillies (Crown Solicitor)' said that on January 18, 1323, a ram named Dalton was making his way from Thames to Manawatu. Ho had to waii on the Hamilton station, where he fell asleep on a seat. He awoke after midnight, when he found that, in addition to losing his train, he had also lost his watch and chain. Prisoner and a man named N'uttall came down from Auck. land that evening, and later it would he shown tiiat prisoner pawned tha watch and chain and pendant. Mr. Gillies read a statement signed by Clancy, in which he said he had given Ualton. who was short of money, £1 odd for the watch and chain, which he later pawned.

The jury disagreed and a new trill was ordered to take place on Monday,
