ABOVE THE AWARD.

FREEZING WORKERS' DEMAND, STF,IKE CHARGE FOLLOWS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, this day. As a sequel to the alleged refusal of butchers employed by the Tokomaru Bay Freezing Works on February 28 to work overtime unless paid double rates, sixteen men were charged this morning at Tokomaru Bay with participating in a strike. The inspector of Factories claimed a £3 penalty from each. The inspector deposed that the men were asked to work overtime to clean up a mob of sheep, but declined to do so unless paid double time, the award specifying time and a-half. The sheep had to be scut back to the stations. The hearing is proceeding.
