ISLAM IN AFRICA.

CHRISTIAN PULPITS ALARMED.

The "Morning Post" recently published the following cable from Johannesburg: "A warning has been issued from pulpits here against the advance of Mohamniedism in Africa." One minister declared recently: "The alternative before us is not between making native people Christians or leaving them as they are. It is whether they are to be Christians or Mohammedans." Islam has assumed great dimensions in Africa. It now numbers many millions, chiefly in the north, but pushing south and gathering vast numbers of native people into its elastic, brotherhood. Cairo is the scene of ceaseless activity—educational and propagandist. Much in tbe Moslem faith appeals to the native. It leaves him a lot in this life that is congenial to him, such as polygamy and concubinage, and promises him a voluptuous paradise, an ideal which just suits his taste.
