"BY FAITH YE ARE HEALED."
SERVICE AT ST. MATTHEW'S. BISHOP AVERILL'S ADDRESS. Following upon the Hickson Spiritual Healing Mission the Anglican Church in Auckland has for the last 18 months been quietly continuing the work. For five months past preparatory intercession services have been held at St. Matthew's Church. Yesterday Dr. A. W. Averill, Bishop of Auckland, conducted a service which was largely attended. About 40 people sought the ministration of the church for relief from bodily ilk. The large proportion of those present were women in attendance on sufferers. The Bishop was attended by Canon Grant Cowen, Vicar of St. Matthew's, Revß. R, G. Coates, F. R. Harrison, and T. Southworth. After Holy Sacrament had been administered the sufferers were presented to the Bishop, each rethe blessing, and laying on of hands. The Bishop impressed on the congregation that it was not the dead Jesus, but the risen Christ, whose redemptive life wae still the channel through which mankind might attain the rich promises of light and life. Men should not be afraid to claim what had been offered by the Saviour, nor should they doubt that He was still sending others to carry-on the work Hβ Himself had started, that of bringing health to the souls and bodies of men. "We must believe," eaid the Biehop, "that Hβ has left to His Church the work of caring for the physical and spiritual needs of His people. We claim that work, not as men, but as instruments of the living Saviour. The Church is just the agency through which He is still carrying on His work of love."
