MT. ALBERT AMALGAMATION.
(To tlie Editor.) q r _l real Mr. M. J. Coyle's letter "Star- with broadmmded Merest and I can vouchsafe for what ,° says about the work that is being fene at Point Chevalier. Although the u-orfe that has been completed to date not very noticeable, still plenty has ton done.' and whoa the final touches L finished, in the way of footpaths : nd roads. I will say that this wiH be He of the best suburbs in Auckland. end that accomplishment will bp withm two years. What if Point Chevalier T.eople do turn around and say they are paring more rates'; They will have to admit that they have all they want h the way of modern conveniences. _ >.o. I sit the" anti-amalgamation committee that" has been formed to fight against joining the city are only going to fight for the few landed proprietors of the borough and not in the interests of the majority of ratepayers. It is absurd to put "up the argument of having to pay higher rates to the city, but this h to be expected, and who will object so long as we are getting our requirements catered for? I would much sooner pay £18 per year and have everything modern than £8 and get nothing in return. And remember, ratepayers, that Mount Albert is going to be a very expensive borough to road and drain, and, with amalgamation, we will have others to share" our expense. Besides, the administration of these costly undertakes of the future will be lessened considerably, and dealt with by more experienced and efficient men than we have at present. —I am. etc.. RATEPAYER.
