EXECUTIVE SUGGESTED.
WAITTKTJ CANAL SCHEME. HAMBER OF COMMERCE ACTION. Urging the construction of the proposed Waiuku canal, Mr. A. A. Martin, president of the Auckland Chamber of •' omrcerce, said at a meeting of the council this afternoon that it now remained for those wishing to further the undertaking to organise and do their best to bring it about. In their recent tour of inspection they had been amply convinced that it was necessary, and the Hon. G. J. Anderson, Mr. H. R. Mackenzie (chairman of the Harbour Board) and several members of Parliament had spoken in its fSvour. "It is suggested," Mr. Martin remarked, "that an executive be set up, consisting of two representatives from the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, two from the Harbour Board, and one each from Onehunga. Waiuku. Mercer, Ngaruawahia, Hamilton and Cambridge: and if this m°ets with your approval the idea is that certain gentlemen be nominated as members of this executive and n Tneetin" , he called at an early date in this chnmbpr. , ' In his report of the tour Mr. Martin s+ated thnt the potentialities of the nrocanal were admitted on all sides. The result would be a continuous waterway from Cambridge to Onehunga.
