ORAKEI EXHIBITION SITE.
FIFTY ACRES REQUIRED. With a view to acquiring an exhibition site for Auckland, Mr. A. A. Martin (president, of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce) suggested at a council meeting , this afternoon that steps should be taken to reserve an area at Orakei. He emphasised the. need of terminating the present arrangement under which reliance was played upon the willingness of the Harbour Board to grant the use of its wharf sheds; and said that fifty acres would eventually be required for exhibition purposes. Opposition to the proposal, said Mr. Martin, had been met from Labour members, but he considered that the Chamber's proposal was a highly desirable one in the interests of the city and province.. ,
