MOTOR CARS COLLIDE.

FOUR PEOPLE INJURED. NETHERTON ROAD MISHAP. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAEROA, this day. A serious smash occurred on the Awaiti-Netherton Road opposite Mr. H A. Morrison's residence last evening. From details available it appears that a car driven by Mrs. Tom O'Carroll, of Kopuarahi, was returning home from the races when a large car owned by Mr. E. E. Marshall, of Pipiroa, driven by Mr. Joe Ivan, travelling in the same direction endeavoured to pass. This car struck the other with such force as to push it over into a drain at the side of the road, capsizing the car with its occupants. The force of the impact caused the second car to slew round and run into the drain where it turned a somersault. Willing hands from other cars which arrived aided Mr. Hans Morrison, who lives opposite and heard the collision, in extricating the occupants of the wrecked cars. The most seriously injured in Mrs. O'Carroll's car were:— Miss Mitchell, of Kopuarahi, severe bruises and slight concussion and a broken nose. Mrs. Coombes, bruises. Mr. E. E. O'Carroll, deep cuts in the left hand and forearm and bruises. The sufferers were taken into the residence of Mr. Morrison and were later attended by Dr. Little of Paeroa. The occupants of Mr. Marshall's car (four in number) were thrown clear, with the exception of Mr. Ivan, who was pinned under the wreckage face down in the drain. Had it not been for the timely assistance of Mr. H. Morrisou and his brother Mr. Ivan would have been drowned in 2ft of water. By an almost superhuman effort the Morrison brothers succeeded in lifting the car sufficiently for Ivan to be extricated. An examination of his injuries revealed severe skin abrasions and bruises, and it is feared that some ribs are broken. The occupants of the car together with the injured driver were conveyed t<l Turua by Mr. G. Sarjant and were attended to by Dr. Valentine.
