IMMUNITY OF CRIMINALS. MORE POLICE REQUIRED. MELBOURNE, March 17. A deputation cf traders from the suburb of Prahran to-day waited upon the Chief Secretary (Dr. S. Argyle) and asked for the services of more police to watch the gangs of known criminals who loaf in the streets all day. The deputation said that these men were arrogantly boasting of their immunity from the law. They were robbing business places and homes every night. It was also stated that organised gangs of the worst criminals in the State bad concentrated their activities on Prahran. There they w*ere terrorising tbe traders in the main streets and defying the police. The deputation asked for an amendment of the Police Offences Act to make it an offence to consort with known criminals. The Chief Secretary promised to deal with tho trouble. He said amendments to tbe Police OfiVnces Act were now beinij drafted.—(A. and X.Z. Cable.)
