BOWEN FALLS.
« PROPOSED NITRATE PLANT. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") DUXEDIX, Tuesday. A proposal to establish a nitrate plant at the Bo wen Kails cair.e before the Dunedin Chamber of (. oinmerc'3 lust night. The Prime Minister, the Minister of Public Work.-., and the Minister in charge of Tourist aiitl Health Kcsorts wrote promising to give full consideration to a protest on the subject forwarded by the Chamber. The Hon. Uark Cohen and Mr. J. W. Munro, M.P., wrote strongly supporting the Chamber's protest. Mr. John Edie, M.P., wrote tUat ho could not support the Chamber's objections for the reasons published. Mr. James Horn, M.P., wrote regretting that he was unable to support the I number's resolution against the proposal to allow Bowen Falls to be used for the purpose of generating electricity to manufacture nitrates. "In my opinion," he wrote, "the small area used will not destroy the scenic beauty of Milford to any great extent; on the other hand, thousands of people should such a work be established, will visit Milford to see and inspect what will become one of the greatest industries Neiv Zealand will ever have." The letters were received.
