PERSONAL.

Mr. W. Cullen, chief inspector of machinery, is at present in Auckland.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Calver, of Wanganui are guests at Hotel Cargen.

The Hon. Geo. Fowlds and Mrs. Fowlds were passengers for Wellington by the express last evening.

Messrs. W. Appleton and W. CoryWright, of Wellington, left by the Limited express last evening.

Mr. EL D. Robertson is at present in Wellington for the purpose of attending a meeting of the executive of the Red Cross Society.

Major-General C. W. Melvill, officer commanding the New Zealand Forces, returned to Wellington from the South Island yesterday.

Recent arrivals at the Star Hotel are Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Graham (Hamilton), and Messrs. W. Brown (Hokianga), W. T. Royal (Palmerston North), E. B. Wakefield and A. J. Dawson (Sydney), and F. W. Grainger (Wellington).

The health of Mr. John Edie, M.P., for Gutha, is causing his family and friende some, anxiety. About three weeks ago he consulted a Dunedin specialist and found that his condition was more serious than he thought.

Mr. Laurence Johnstone, who contested the Tauranga. seat at the last general election, is working through from Thames to Matamata in the interests of co-operative banks. Owing to recurring attacks of sciatica Mr. Johnstone is not certain whether he will be able to contest any seat next election.

. Mr. R. H. Sarsfield,- publicity agent for the Canadian National Railways, who is at present in Auckland, will leave for England by the Aorangi. Mr. Sarsfield will lecture in the Old Country on New Zealand from a tourist's point of new. He proposes visiting every town in which the All Blacks appeared, and when lecturing there he will wear All Black costume. At the conclusion of the tour Mr. Sarsfield will return to New Zealand and lecture on "A Trip Across Canada, on the GNIt"
