Commenting en the rurSy-Trowern fiasco in xvhich it is said Purdy was allowed' to return to tbe ring after an absence of several minutes, the Sydney '•Referee" says. —Newspaper cuttings, forwarded xvitb tbe letter, bear out the statements of the occurrences in tbe ring. To say tbe least, they were weird. Either the ofilclals knoxv little about the conducting of a fight, else there is a good deal in xvhat tbe writer of tbe letter says about favouritism. On the rules of the association alone tbe contest should certainly have been awarded to Trowern. Tbe Auckland people who run the fights bavc been In the game long enough to know how tbey should be conducted. Evidently tbe occ a . sion under review was too mucb for them. Purdv is In tbe pubiic eye. only just, breaking into the game, and I know that there are many New Zealanders who fondly hoped that in bim they bad at last found a roan capable of holding his own with the bcFt from Australia.
