FATAL MOTOR MISHAP.
- ' ' m -- -— YOUNG AUCKXANDER'S DEATH. RESULT OF OVERSTRAINING. Particularly *ad are the , in-umsfances surrounding the death at Xew Plrmouth of a young Aucklander. Mr. F. R. Abbott, who died from injuries received during a mishap to his motor car during the course of a motor tour of the North Island.
This week, a party, including Mrs. A. Abbott, of Abbott's Road. Mt." Eden, mother of deceased. and Mr. John Dawson, left Auckland in two cars. Without accident the tourists reached the road approaching Mount Messenger, in Taranaki. The road there was in a very bad state. Mr. Dawson, who was driving the front car. went through successfully, but the second, in charge of Mr. Abbott stuck in the mud. Deceased and Mr. Dawson. after repeated attempts and hard work, managed to get the car out. but when New Plymouth was reached, it liecame apparent that Mr. Abhott bad overstrained himself during his strenuous efforts to remove his car. At midnight, a bloodvessel in the brain burst, and he collapsed. It was impossible for medical men to do anything to save his life and he died the following morning. Mr. Abbott was only i'O years of age He was a surveyor-cadet employed in the office of Mr. Dawson, and was a nephew of Mr. R. H. Abbott, of Auckland. Deceased was a popular young man, and showed exceptional promise. The friends of Mrs. Abbott feel very keenly for her. Her husband, the late Colonel F. W. Abbott, D.5.0.. died suddenly at sea 1- years ago, while he was coming from England to take charge of the Auckland military district. The funeral of deceased took placs on Wednesday at Purewa.
