AN OLD IDENTITY.
MR. ADAM HENDERSON. CELEBRATES NINETY-THIRD BIRTHDAY. A gentleman well known on the Auckland waterfront attained his ninetythird birthday this week. Mr. Adam Henderson's birthday part}' was held at his residence, Victoria Road, Devonport. Mr. Henderson received numerous congratulatory messages from his many friends. He was born in Sunderland in 1831, and arrived at Auckland with his wife and family by the ship Harwood,in 1858. He had served an apprenticeship to shipbuilding, then was - couple of years afloat, being at Constantinople when peace was made at the termination of the Crimean War. Mr. Henderson started as a shipbuilder in Auckland "with the late Mr. Spraggon, and the business is still continued by Mr. Henderson, junior, but the father still superintends financial matters. Mr. Henderson is a member of the Methodist Church, and laid the foundation stone of the new Sunday school building at Devonport. He was present at the building of Pitt Street -Methodist Church, in which he filled the offices of treasurer, superintendent, and society steward. Mr. Henderson is well preserved for a nonagenarian.
