MT. EDEN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
CONCRETING MAIN ROADS. The Mount Eden r.orough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. E. H. Potter) presiding. Engineer's Report.—ln bis report dealing with work in progress in the borough, the engineer (Mr. J. Rogers) said that tue concreting of carriageways under contract was proceeding expeditiously and satis factorily.. The concrete carriageway oi Sylvan Avenue had been completed and it was proposed that this roadway he ceremoniously opened in due course. The concreting of Mount Eden Koad was now in progress between Sylvan Avenue and Shaddock Street, while the eastern side of Dominion Road, from a point south of Ewlngton Avenue to the city boundary near Eden Terrace, bad been compleieu, with the exception of a short length near the railway bridge, which had been left pending the laying of a large water mu.n by the City Council. The concreting of Dominion Itoail was now in progress in the direction of Herbert Road, where it would he terminated temporarily, and the concreting aloug the western side of the carriageway would be commenced. He had cousidered the concreting of the carriageway of Balmoral Road over a length of 200 ft, aud had computed the corn, of the work as follows:—The full width between kerbs of 30ft, £050; a width of 20ft only £175. The plans for the sewerage for the block hounded by View Rond, Esplanade Road, Wynyard Road and Edenvale Road bad been completed. The survey bad beeu completed and plans were now being prepared for the drainage of the block lying between "Wairiki Road, Mount Eden Road and Tui Street. As the drainage of this particular area was urgently needed, it was important tnai the work should be completed before the next wet season, and he proposed to invite tenders for the work for the council's consideration on November 10. At the present time the surface water from Chamberlain's Avenue flows on to Paton's estate, where it created a nuisance, and he recommended that this should be abated »j the construction of cesspits and draineu through the drainage easement on property on the eastern side of the roadway. The work he estimated to cost £110. He also advised that Mr. Watkins, the chief engineer of the Auckland Drainage Boaru. had tentatively approved the combined system of drainage for the southern zone of the borough, and the final design ana lay-out of the scheme could be completed, aiid on its further advancement the plant, would be submitted to the Auckland Drainage Board for approval. Closing Dominion Road.—A letter from the City Council's waterworks engineei, asking whether Dominion Road could be closed while a 33in main tn Khyber Pass | was being laid early in November, was referred to the engineer to report. Tt was pointed out that the pipes are 28ft long, and it would be difficult to carry oul the work if the road was to be open. Connecting Road.—ln order to mnVc a connecting road between Burnley Terrace and Marlborough Street, the council doclded to purchase a section of land with a frontage of 44ft. at £8 per foot. It was considered that the new road, when mnde, would be a great convenience to the district.
