OTAHUHU AFFAIRS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) One of the most successful socials held nnde.r the auspice? of the Otahuhu branch of the Plunket Society took place in ■ the Public Hall on Friday evening last. There was a large attendance of children, mostly in fancy dress. The Mayor, Mr It B Todd, declared the ball open. The object of the ball was to raise funds towards the Otahuhu quota of £1000 a year, which amount provides for the attendance of a Plunket nurse weekly. The prizewinners are as follows:—Most original dress: Miss Ursula McAnultv "A Girl from the Plains." Boy's most original SU MT e r, t: „ J , r ", Bter Jack Jensen, "Humanised mllk. Girls' character dress: Miss Edith Pearce/ "Eastern Lady." ■Boys 1 Character dress: Master TreVor Pearce, "The Sheik." Girls under 7 years: Elsie Ellis, "The liirl with the ian." Hoys, under 7 years- Master Jack McDell, "Indian." Special prize was presented to Master Baiter, "Brother' and Sister." Musical items were given by Miss Bona Sol-ted, Miss Keeslng, BabyEdwards. Misses McKenzie and Reeves, pupils of Miss O'Leary. Excellent music was rendered by Mrs. F. Andrew's orchestra. Mrs. A. Murdoch, president of the branch, presented the prizes. T , he 9 ta , lmn -"" L -" les ' Croquet Club'opened their playing season last week, there being a good attendance. The president, Mrs J Melvor, delivered a short address and shot the first ball. Progressive croquet was then played. Mrs. IJatten and Mrs. McDonald winning the trophies. A social held in the Public Hall in the evening in aid of cno funds was largely attended. Progressive euchre was played, the winners being Mr. and Mrs. P. Locbart. At the annual social of the Court Star' of the South Ancient Order of Foresters a presentation of a gold medal was made to Bro.
