OUSTING BRITISH.
DESPERATE FIGHT IN INDIA. CIVIL SERVICES. CALCUTTA, September 12. A very keen fight is raging in the Imperial Legislature, which is in session at Simla, in regard to the future of the public services. The Goirernment seeks to enforce the recommendations of a recent Royal Commission, which provide for the further extensive employment of Indians in responsible positions. The extremists, however, who, are in strong force, are- making, a desperate fight for complete Indianisation, and the stoppage of the recruitment of Britishers in all the services. A British member, in a speech, uttered a grave warning that the Commission's proposals went over the limit of safety. British recruitment, if once stopped, he said, could never be renewed. It is anticipated that the Government will carry the proposal with a narrow majority, but the position is one of grave moment for the future government of India by Britain.
