MURDER IN ROME.

FASCIST LEADER KILLED. A CARPENTER'S CRIME. EXCITEMENT IN ITALY. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) ROME, September 14. Another Deputy has been killed under sensational circumstances. A carpenter named Corvi fired three revolved shots fatally wounding Deputy Casalini, Under-Secretary to the Fascist Corporation, who was riding in a tramcar. The whole of Italy is horror-stricken at the crime. It has still further increased the tension on the nation's nerves. Corvi was formerly a porter at Signor Casalini's villa. The latter was wounded in the forehead and in the temple. The injured man sank into the seat in the tramcar against his 14-year-old daughter, murmuring, "They have killed mc." Corvi threatened the conductor and the passengers in the tram with his revolver and then tried to escape. He was 'caught by passing carbiniers and soldiers, however. They had difficulty in protecting him from the crowd, who threatened to lynch him. Corvi appeared to be mentally unbalanced and bordering on insanity. He said he had killed Signor Casalini in order to avenge his * (the assassin's) "brother in idealism," the late Signor Matteotti, who was murdered recently. I Signor Casalini was taken to a hospital, where he expired on the operating table. - ! The Cabinet is taking measures to ensure public order. The whole of the j Press and the directory of the Fascist party are exhorting the nation to exer-' , cisc restraint. The poet deputy, Signor Benelli, the leader of the new Italic League, published an impassioned appeal to the whole nation to lay ten arms and end the martrydom of terror and threats which is stifling the nation's civilisation. . ' Signor Casalini was a popular member of the Fascist party. He leaves a widow and five children. — (Reuter.)
