PNEUMONIC INFLUENZA.
FEW CASES IN AUCKLAND.
ONLY FOUR LAST MONTH. . While colds, or cases of common influenza, have 'been rife in Anckland during the past- month or so, the "position is mild compared to that of Wsimatc, where, it was reported yesterday, there had been an outbreak of pneumonic influenza, resulting in five deaths, while some nineteen cases had been treated at the Waimatc Hospital. Inquiries made at the local officcßof the Health Department this morning showed that, so far from acute cases of influenza being prevalent this winter, the season, in fact, this year, has been a mild ono, tlie returns being very low. Since January the number of cases of pneumonia reported to the Department totalled 17, and last month's contribution was four, of which two were country cases, one city, and one Mount Kden. " Of these cases there were, two deaths, and the Department considers, now that the winter is over, there is little likelihood of an outbreak of pneumonia such as :s mentioned in the South. In no instance has there been reported a case of a whole family being laid tip and the position generally is particularly satisfactory.
