DEVONPORT V. ELLERSLIE.
North Shore. —Bolger, Cooper, Monteith, Hand Vnysey, Webb, Taylor, Lainj;, St. Georse, Vercoe, Scott, O'Brien, Douglas. Ellerslle —Hettel, Williams, Brian, Johnson Peebles, Shand, Ryan. Crotty, Page, Dance, Pbelan, Clark, Harrison. The opening stages of the game were dominated by Ellerslie, who worked the scrum successfully on a number of occasions. After a spell of lons-range kicking. Harper picked up in midflelrt, and after a smart run, touched down. Scott converted. North Shore 5, Ellerslie 0. North Shore returned to the attack almost immediately, Harper again obtaining possession, to run down the side-line in great style, evade the opposition, and touch down in the corner. The kick was low. North Shore S, Ellerslie 0. Ellerslie tried to work down field per medium of loose foot rushes, but the Shore defence was sound, and very soon after Hand had the oval in band. He sprinted down the Bide-line, supported by Voysey, and after a tricky manoeuvre he beat .Hettel and scored a nice try in a handy position. Scott had little difficulty with the kick.- North Shore 13, Ellerslie 0. Putting,,more sting into their game, Ellerslie set up l an attack, and began to throw the ball about more freely They bore down -to the goal mouth, whnre Shore were penalised, and Peebles opened the scoring account for EUerslie with two points per medium of a welldirected kick. Shortly after. Scott was unlucky in not scoring, when he raced after the bail. Just as it was rolling on the line he fell but his> clutching finger knocked it on and Ellerslie forced. Harper was the next to score for North Shore, Scott converting, and half-time sounded with the scores : North Shore 18 EllersHe 2 For the second half, Shore had the sun in their eyes. Laing enme to light with a smart run down the sideline, and endeavoured to pass when collared, but Peebles intercepted, and play returned to the other end Johnson was pushed out after an Ellerslie handling bout. North Shore made a determined attack on the Ellerslle line, and after stalling off a lot of opposition, Webb scored in the corner. Hand failed to convert. North Shore 21, Ellerslie 2. Soon after North Shore were penalised for off-side play, and Shand kicked a nice penalty. Ellerslie 4. After a spell of uninteresting play, Shand kicked another penality, and the game ended: North Shore 21 Ellerslie 6 Mr. H. C Taylor was referee,
