MOUNT ALBERT'S QUARRY.

NEW AREA OPENED. In view of the fact that the Morningside Quarry was reaching ita limit of production, the Mount Albert Borough Council some time ago decided to look J round the district for another suitable j area from which to procure stone. After I careful investigation a block of 121 acres J was acquired on the borders of the ! Avondale Asylum property, and a plant ' installed which is capable of turning out 80. cubic yards of metal per day. The stone deposit has been tested, and found to consist of a layer of hard metal 10ft to 12ft in depth'upon a clayfoundation, and its even height makes the working of the quarry remarkably easy. It is estimated that 200,000 cubic yards are available, which will be quite sufficient to put all the roads in Mount Albert in order. The speakers at the function were: Councillor Allingham (chairman of the Works Committee), Mr. Powell (consulting engineer), and the Mayor (Mr. L. E. Rhodes). At the ; the conclusion of the speeches Mr. T. Grubb suggested a vote of tbanke to the , Mayor and councillors for the foresight and enterprise which they had displayed, : and, on the motion of Captain Atwood, this was carried by acclamation. :
