GALE ON THE WEST COAST.
MANUKAU BAR UNWORKABLE. A heavy gale Las. been raging on the West Coast since Friday, and all the bars as far south as Greymouth have been unworkable for three days. Manukau bar became unworkable to outwardbound vessels on Friday night, and the only steamer that crossed on Saturday was the Barawa, ' inward-bound front 1 Xew Plymouth. The Anchor steamer Waimea left Onelmnga on Saturday morning with the intention of sailing for Nelson; but, as it was impossible to cross the bar she returned to port, and will remain there until the weather moderates. The Rarawa will also await an improvement in the weather before sailing on her next trip to New Plymouth. She is announced to leave Onehunga at noon to-morrow, instead of 3 p.m. to-day. Ko steamers will be able to cross tiie bar to-day as a heavy sea is still running, and the Arapawa, which is to sail for Waikato Heads, has also been postponed until to-morrow. . n. At Hokianga the Rimu has been barI bound since Saturday, and cannot leave . there before, to-morrow at the earliest. Consequently her trip from Onehunga for Raglan and Kawhia has been postponed until Wednesday, and it is doubtful whether she will make a trip from Onehunga to Hokianga later in the week.
