Owing to the sloppy nature of the ground, which was a quagmlro in parts, the game was never at any stuge fast, and the backs were unable to work with any degree of accuracy, the ball being too greasy to permit of effective handling. Newton attacked early in the first quarter. Hooker. Moorcraft und Samways headed the forwards in a loose dribbling rush, and Shore were on the defensive. A scrum five yards from the line made the supporters of the home team tremble, but Miller cleared, and play returned to safer territory. Ness essayed a shot at the posts, hut it fell short, and by dint of foot rushes Shore carried operations well into Newlou's territory, Darroch, Rykers. Davies and Grant all working hard. The change of ends came without either side having scored. Early in the second quarter Newton attacked with great determination, and there was an exciting melee on the touchline. Miller eventually clearing. Play of a straggling nature followed till Darroch flushed into prominence with a swift run down the line, hut be was collared, and Stanley booted successfully. A number of line-outs followed at half-way. Shore gradually gaining ground. Newton set up a forward attack, in which Simmons. Monaban and Samways figured. Another forward gave a misdirected pass, and a moment later Miller claimed a mark. From the resultant place-kick he sent the ball cleanly between Ihe uprights.
