SENSATION IN COURT.

ELDERLY MAN BEES. AFTER HEARING VERDICT. (By Telegraph.—Prew Awoctation.) WELLINGTON, this day. A police prosecution in the Magistrate's Court to-day had a tragic ending, when the defendant collapsed and died soon after hearing the magistrate's decision. The cage was one in \rhieh the police" proceeded against Patrick Cavanagh, a dairyman, aged over 70, residing at Kaiwarra, for alleged ill-treatment of a calf. When defendant, who occupied a seat in the body Of the Court, heard the magistrate (Mr. Page) state that he thought a conviction would have to be entered, his head fell forward on to the table at which he wae sitting. Defendant was carried out of Court into an adjoining room and Dr. Henry was summoned. In about ten minutes' time SubInspector Cameron informed the Court that the defendant had died.
