RADIO FROM CHICAGO.

; A LONG RANGE TEST. NOT VERY STJCCESSSFU-. BAD STATIC CONDITIONS. Wireless enthusiasts throughout the Dominion and Australia are somewhat disappointed at the result of the experiment, of trying to pick up a speech from Chicago which, by arrangement, was delivered from the office of the "Chicago Timcw" by Sir George Fenwick, of Dunedin, last night. Xobody has reported having heard the speech, though quite a number of people heard voices from Chicago apparently trying to call up different subscribe Vs. it was unfortunate that the static conditions during the week-end were unfavourable for listening-in and lecal stations and Australia report howling and other discordant sounds. i'esterday morning at 1.53 a message was received by an enthusiast from the Sydney wireless station. It announced that Chicago would experiment on a 370-metre between S and 9 p.m. Victorian time. The remainder of the speech would be transmitted on a 448----metre as arranged. The second call signal would be WGX. and this would also be used during the tests. Quite a number of amateurs heard Chicago calling, and Mr. G. Page, of Remuera Road, using an ordinary threevalve "Gloradia" apparatus received a number of short messages, which commenced soon after nine. He was in touch until 9.25, but rould decipher only a number of questions and instructions. The familiar "Hello" was repeated several times, and on another occasion the voice, distinctly American, '..quired: "Is that clear? 1 think this will be clearer." Another message picked up was one from the Sydney to Melbourne service stations. It referred to the Chicago tests and announced that a faint voice and carrier was heard, but howlin" valves and static spoilt the test
