LABOUR CAMPAIGN.
Mr.. SAVAGE I>: THE XORTH.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) I-AITAIA, this day.
Mr. M. J. Savage, member for Auckland West, has addressed large meet ngi in the northern portion of the ilangonui County, including all gumdigging centres, and has formed branches of the Labour party, lie also spoke in the Victoria Valley and Kaitaia fanning centres, where he also had good meetings. He dealt principally with land questions, finance, mortgage, the moratorium, and State banking. Labours land policy was explained at length. There was," he said, no desire to put men off the land, but rather to keep them on it, the land passing from father to son so long a-- they were using it. But if they were desirous of going off they must sell to the State. He criticised the administration of returned soldier settlements, and said the present revaluation was only window dressing. It was practically impossible to reduce taxation, and interest, was likely to be higher in future. The State should take some steps to prevent undue hardships when the moratorium is lifted, which, should be done this year. The State must take a hand in the question of banking. Replying to a question, Mr. Savage said he could not. understand
anyone favouring the cessation of railway work; they wanted roads, but equally they wanted railways to devebp the country. A hearty vote of thanks and appreciation was carried after a particularly good hearing. Mr. A. X Hollay presided oyer the meeting.
