■ PARNELL'S BIG SCORE. CENTURY TO HEMUS. POOR STAND BY GRAFTON:. UNIVERSITY'S COLLAPSE AT DEVONPORT. University tripped over to Devonport. and made a dismal showing against the home team, being dismissed for 3S in the first innings and getting only 41 for four wickets in the second. On a good wicket at Eden Park, Parnell won the toss, and took the crease, Eden being.given the opportuntiy to enjoy a day jin the open. Opening with Anthony and J. IM. Smith. 25 were totted up before Cooper scattered Anthony's wicket. Hemus came on, and settling down to steady cricket he and Smith took the score along to 114 before Smith was caught. Then McLeod joined Hemus, and the pair played havoc with the bowling, and scored all over the ground. From 114 they took the total' to 303, when Hemus was caught on the boundary. He had compiled 138, and had been batting three and a-half hours. ScottClarke was dismissed for five, and McLeod, batting brilliantly, was not out for 02 when stumps were drawn. Ponsonby fared slightly better, aud when stumps were drawn had compiled 143 for the loss or six wickets. Smith was responsible for the "lion's share'- of the total, being not out with 33.
