WAIHEKE ANNUAL REGATTA.

YACHT AND LAUNCH RACES,

The annual regatta promoted by the residents of AVaihoke was held at Cowes Bar yesterday. The weather was ideal, a light north-easterly breeze prevailed during tbe greater part of tho day, afterwards •backing to the south-west. The "launch Metbinia acted as flagship, and was moored off the end of the wharf. Over 00 yachts and launches were anchored in the bay, and a very large number ot excursionists journeyed to ("owes in the steamers Wakatere and Daphne. An attractive programme was provided, and rcsultea in good entries. . The officials in charge were: Starter ana jud-e Mr. T. 1.. Thompson: time-keepers, Messrs. E. Day and G. E. Lareock. Messrs. E. Day, W. J. Counell and S. Pegler hacharge of the side shows. Mr. T. Weir was honorary secretary. Tbe prizes won at the regatta were presented to tbe winr.ers in the evening. Details of the racing arc as follow:— THE KEEL TACIITS. The race for keel yachts brought out five competitors, which were sent away at iO-«*> a.m. to a good start. Speedwell took the lead carlv in the race, and maintained it till tbe finish, which was timed as follows: Speedwell (2m). lh 20m 355; Scout (3m), lh Sam 40s: Waione (scr). 2h 11m 30s: Cynthia (23m), 2h 13m 10s. Besult: Speedwell 1, Scout 2, Cynthia 3. In the race for 2Kt and 2r,tt mullet boats. Celox led Colleen and Omatere round the course the finish beins timed as follows: Celox '(scr). lh '.Vim 15s; Colleen Uom). lh 24m ss: Omatere (Sm). lh 25m 555. Ilesult: Colleen 1. Omatere 2, Celox 3. Tbe start ot tbe race for 22ft and 20ft mullet boats was one of the best of the day. Winifred nas first away, and next to her came Mowai, Marie. Venus. Wayward, Xtawii and Ameria. In the race for 14ft boats of all classes. Kismet led tbe fleet round trie course. Another good start was effected in the race for the IS-footers, which were led over the line by Wizard, closely followed by Magic, Secret. Millicent and Wild Wave. Secret sraduallv overhauled the leaders, while Millicent worked her way into secona position. The finishing times were:— Secret i'4m), lh 11m 445: Millicent (4m), lh ISm; Magic (scr) lh 21m 233; MawhiU dm), lh 21m. _W Wild Wave (6m), lh 22m; Wizard flm),- lh 23m 50s. Result: Secret 1, Millicent 2, Wild Wave 3. •Seven boats started In the race for 16----footers, and before they had gone very lar Namu worked into the lead and finished well ahead of the Ueet. Waltai took the lead early in the race aud maintained it to tbe flnisu, which was timed as follows:—Waitai (scr;, Jllr 21m; Miro (4m 555), lib 2Sm 30s; Edna (2m 20st, lib 20m 20*; Sunbeam (Mm 455), lib 30m; Allan D. (2m). nil 30m 10s; Ada I. (6m), lib 34m ss. Kesult: Miro 1. Waltai 2, Sunbeam 3.

There were only two competitors in the race for launches uuier nine knots, which was timed as foilows:—Rita (scr), 12h 30m; Oreti (lim), 12h 30m 50s. Result: Oreti J, Rita 2.

There were five competitors in the race for launches ,over nine knots, which were led over the liDe by Ngawarl. with Miss 'Xortheote and Valeka handy. Miss Northcote soon went into the lead and. was never headed. The finishing times were:—Miss Northcote (scr). 12h Om 10s: Defender (4m), 12h 10m 40s; Ngawarl (sm), 12h 11m 30s: Valeka (10m), 12b 17m ss; 'Buffalo Bill (10m), 12h 37m 10s. Result: Ngawarl 1, Defender 2t Valeka 3.
