This paragraph lie extracted from an editorial note in the Australasian Trade Journal issued in London last month. The writer points out that "Doles" and "Relief schemes'" for unemployment have ceased to be effective, be-| eanae the depreciated currency of the Conti-1 nent enables goods to be dumped in Britain at prices less than the Home miXer can produce for. '-The -writer .adds, "British buyers cannot be blamed for satisfying their needs as cheaply as possible, but long ago our overseas Dominions became alive to the danger of this if carried to extremes. They are prepared to give a substantial preference to tbe British goods, provided we will reciprocate by legislation Which will ensure a larger share of our Imports of meat, corn, fruit, dairy produce, being. l>on?ht within the Empire, Sceptics deny th* this will be to the mutual betieflt of Britain and her dependencies. They declare that we shall lose our foreign trade, oblivious of the fact that this misfortune is already accomplished. That our only chance of survival as nn Empire Is closer commercial unity, is becoming more evident every toy."
