REVOLUTION IN MEXICO.
THREE HUNDRED KILLED. CAPTURE OF A CAPITA!.. MANY PRISONERS TAKEN. (By Cable.—Pres« Association.— Copyright.) (Received 10 a.m.) MEXICO CITY, December 10. The first battle in the new Mexican revolution resulted in 300 deaths. The rebels captured Jalapa, the, capital of the State of Vera Cruz, taking 200 prisoners, including several famous loyal generals. Mexico is thrown into a turmoil. Crosscountry railway comunication has ceased. Business is suffering. Foreign oil companies, whose shipments are being held up, are especialy hard hit. (A. and N.Z. Cable.) NEW YORK, December 10. According to a message from Vera Cruz it is stated that Jalapa, the capital of the State of Vera Cruz, fell into the hands of revolutionaries on Saturday. Advices from El Paso, Texas state that railway communications with Mexico have been destroyed by bandits. It is understood that sympathisers with President Obregon have taken possession ot several cities and declared martial law. It is rumoured that General De La Huerta and all hie supporters have been deprived of office.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
General Alvero Obregon lias been president of Mexico for three years. Under his regime Mexico has made remarkable progress, and has enjoyed a more orderly existence than she has ever experienced eince the dictatorship of President Diaz. General Obregon's assumption of power followed the deposition and murder of Generali Carranza. His Government has not yet been diplomatically recognised by the United States and Britain, but early recognition is expected from the United States.
