PALMERSTON WAR MEMORIAL.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON' NORTH, this day. The war memorial campaign rmencd to-night with a big raliv in the Opera House, when the Mayor, I.Mr. F. .1. Nathan) announced that a preliminary canvass of leading citizens virlded the splendid total of over .£_r>oo The memorial is to be a replica of the famous Folkstone Statue, in bronze -"nd granite, erected at a cost of £10.000 on the spot where eleven million empire soldiers embarked, and disembarked in France during the war. It is estimated that the cost of the memorial erected in Centre Square, Palmerston will be £5000, and it is confidently anticipated that the memorial will be "the tine-ct ot its kind in the Dominion.
