HARD DIET.
PRISONER SWALLOWED A TOOTHBRUSH. A prisoner in the Hobart Gaol really ought to have been an ostrich, so fond is he of hardware as a diet. A few weeks ago he was taken to the public hospital, suffering from an internal disorder. '
An operation was performed, and to the general surprise a number of miscellaneous articles, such as pins and needles, were found in his stomach. '
He recovered from the effect of this diet and was taken back to the gaol, but was readmitted to hospital, suffering from a similar complaint. Dr. Barnett operated on him, and found in his stomach a toothbrush, a spoon, the handle of a mug, and a splinter of wood a few inches long. These were successfully removed, and the -man's condition was reported to be favourable.
was reported to be favourable.
