CHURCH RAFFLE PRIZES.

MUST NOT BE INCREASED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. The secretary of a Catholic bazaar appeared before Mr. Skinner, S.M., this morning, charged with a breach of the Gaining Act. It appears that at a. recent bazaar there were several raffles for which permission had been given by the Department. The authorities of the bazaar gave with eacli article raffled a gift of greater value. The defendant pleaded guilty. The magistrate ordered payment of costs, but did not record a conviction, as the case had been brought on to show that churches must be careful with raffles.
