ELAM SCHOOL OF ART.
THE PRIZE-GIVING. • The prize-giving following on the annual exhibition in connection with the Klam .Schoft-I of Art* took place yesterday afternoon. Mr. Payton. director of the school, in his opening address, said that the aim of the institute was to catch the students young, and to give them a training in other things as well as iv art. The work on the whole was very satisfactory, and in some cases tlie judges had found it difficult to come to a decision, but he thought that the final judgments were quite fair. Prior to presenting .tlie prizes, Mr. C. J. Tunks, chairman of the board of managers, said that all the students now at the school were not going to be great artists, but lie hoped that at least a few would become well known in the world of art. The school was capable of giving the students an appreciation of nature and the beauty of form. Those things in themselves were an education. It rested on all present to make the school a force that would have to be reckoned with by this community in the future. The following is the prize list: — Set or Studies of Birds and Animals: Miss Wfnnifred Simpson. ' Set or Studies or Plant Form: Lois White. Metal work: Miss Ivy Dawes. Modelling- Design: Miss Doris Austin. Modelling- Plant Form: Miss Lois While Set or Designs: Miss Winnirred Simpson. Set or Six Studies ror Proficiency Students: Miss Eunice Cairns.
