PRESENTATION.

MR. JAS LOVELL. The staff of the Auckland City Council met last evening in the Social Club Room, Town Ha.ll, for the purpose,of making a presentation to Mr. Jas. Lovell on his retirement from the council sen-ice. The Town Clerk (Mr. J. S. Brigham), in making the presentation, referred to the fact that Mr. Lovell had been in the council employ for 42 years, and was the first employee to retire under the superannuation scheme formulated by his Worship the Mayor and the present council. Mr. Lovell joined the staff when the municipal offices consisted of two rooms, eituated over a shop in Queen Street. On behalf of the stall" he wished Mr. and Mrs. Lovell every good wish and long enjoyment of their well-earned period of retirement, and presented Mr. Lovell with an inscribed gold Waltham watch and gold pencil case, and Mrs. Lovell with an inscribed entree dish. The various heads of departments also spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr. Lovell's lengthy service. Mr. Lovell feelingly and suitably responded for himself" and Mrs. Lovell, expressing his appreciation of the kind sentiments. Hearty cheers were then given for the recipients. MR. EDWIN HALL. The subscribers to the Onehunga lib- ' rary. which includes many residents of ; adjacent districts, greatly appreciate the i services rendered by Mr. Edwin Hall as • lion, secretary of the library. An illui minated address, prepared "by Mr. J. i Park, is to be presented to Mr. Hall as a token of their appreciation. The . address places on record the hearty , appreciation of the signatories of Mr. Hall's valuable services, extending over . 22 years, as honorary secretary and member of the Onehunga Carnegie Free - Library Committee. It was largely due to his untiring efforts that the present library was in such a flourishing condition. They also thanked him for the generous donations of books from time to time. An enlarged photo of Mr. Hall, suitably framed, has also been presented to the Onehunga library by his many friends, and hung in the"mai"n hall along with those of other citizens.
