TIRITIRI.
THE EYES OP THE PORT. The keeping of the automatic flashing light at Tiritiri is at present undertaken by the Auckland Harbour Board, but the Marine Department has announced that it proposes to undertake the care of the light in future. It was reported by the liarboiirma.-t<-r to the Harbour Board yesterday that the boat skids at Tiritiri had again been washed away. He suggested the erection of a jetty 300 ft long at an estimated cost of i'uO. The island, he said, formed the eyes of the port, and he urged that as it was part and parcel of the pilotage service the improvement should be granted. The matter was referred to the Works Committee to report to the board in committee.
