THE THIRD ROUND. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NELSON. Tuesday. Oames In the third round of the ladles' championship provided some close finishes, and a few surprises. The two Ohrlstchureh representatives. Misses nixou and Bcadel, put up the sternest struggle for supremacy seen so far during the" tournament, the same going to the 'Jlat preen before a decision was reached. The driving of both was good, but, the putting was rather weak. Surprise was expressed at the defeat of Mrs. Slack (Cambridge) by Mrs. Spiers, of Hutt, while Miss Marchhanks (Wellington) was beaten by Mrs. Pumphrey (Avondale). Miss Watson (Palmerston North) and Miss Cooper (Auckland) took the game to the 18th green before a declsou was reached in favour of the former. Miss Cracroft Wilson (Thrlstcnurch) beat Mrs. Cock (Nelson) by 5 and 4, while Miss Vigor Brown (Napier) defeated Mrs. Mowbray (Nelson) by 3 and 1. Miss Acheson (Nelson) who caused surprise by accounting for Miss Payton (Auckland) In the second round, continued In good form and disposed of Mrs. Lawrence (Christchurch) by 7 and 6. The winner got a Rood 2 at the fourth, her tee shot lying within a foot or two of the pin.
