THE CHARMS OF AUCKLAND.
BRITISH DELEGATES CAPTIVE. SHOWN ROUND BY MAYOR. The members of the British Overseas Settlement Delegation were yesterday afternoon shown round Auckland by the Mayor. 'Mr. J. H. Gunson, who motored them to such vantage points as Mount Eden and One Tree Hill ior viewing the natural beauties of the isthmus and neighbouring waters. "They were all greatly impressed with Auckland and its wonderful natural beauty,"' remarked the Mayor this morning. "When they were standing on One Tree Hill each one of them was entranced with the scene before him, declaring 'he had never seen anything- like it. while the marvellous growth and development of the city in the brief period of eighty years deeply impressed them. They all appeared to be particularly struck with the character of the suburban houses, with the generally neat class of dwelling, and with the extensive building operations going on everywhere. The members of the delegaton have expressed a wish to make further investigations respecting conditions in this centre, on their return to Auckland, apart altogether from the matters arising out oi the chief purposes of their visit." The members of the delegation left last night by the Main Trunk train for Wellington, where they will consult with the Governor-General and members of the Government ibefore starting their tour of New Zealand.
