A PETROL WAR.
SIXTEEN CENTS GASOLINE.
STANDARD CUT RATE.

NEW YORK, August 15.
Throughout ten Middle-Western States petrol is selling for 10 cents per gallon, as the result of a cut rate war among the producers. The situation arose from, the action of the Governors of several States, who ordered the price to be; reasonably lowered from 23 cents, otherwise each State would establish its own petrol stations. The Standard Oil Company immediately reduced its rate far below the price at which independent companies can afford to sell as yet.
In consequence of requests from the Governors of many Western States, the Department of Justice has opened a, nation-wide investigation into the price war among petrol producers.—(A. and > T .Z. Cable.)
