SHOPLIFTER AT WORK. A SMART ARREST. A woman who was caught shop-lifting in Messrs. George Court and Sons, Karangahape Road, this morning, pleaded guilty in the Police Court this afternoon to the theft of two pairs of ladies' hose and one and a-half yards of lace, to the total value of 7/11. The accused, Jessie Evangcline Beatie (42) was seen by a shop assistant who rang for the police, and the woman was arrested by Sergeant McAllister and Constable Allen. Beatie admitted to the Magistrate that she had stolen the goods. Senior-Sergeant Rawle applied for a remand for one week, and this was granted. Bail was allowed in • one surety of £10, but this was not forthcoming.
