NO BOOM OR EXPLOITATION. (By Telegraph-—Parliamentary Reporter.* WELLINGTON, this day. In very firm language t)» Premier yesterday warned the House, alter some urgent questions regarding the date on •which the extended State advances will be available, that he will not countenance anything in the shape of a rush. ''I am not," he said, "going to bring about anything in the way of a boom. I have instructed the Department accordingly. We will -not encourage a land boom nor any increase in the price cf building material. ,.
Mr. Masters: They will put in their applications. How are you going to stop the rush?
Mr. Massey replied that the applications would be considered in their proper order. Each one would have to wait until the business was done quietly and in order.
Mr. K. McEeen (Wellington South) There is a terrible demand.
Mr. Massey: No doubt, but I am not going to be driven into anything in the •hape of a boom. He concluded *by assuring members that the Department would make prompt payment when matters were in order, and he confidently declared that there was no shortage of money. He proposed before the end of the session, to ask further borrowing authority for State advances. Aβ for delays in paying instalments on loans, which, according to Mr. Geo. Witty, prer vented many builders from tendering where Government loans are concerned, Mr. Massey undertook to consult the head of the Valuation Department, which was where, he understood, the delays occurred, owing to the shortage of competent valuers.
