HIGHER PENSIONS.
SOLDIERS AND WAR WIDOWS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this daj-. As indicated in the Governor-General's speech at the opening of the session, Parliament will be asked to consider an amendment of the War Pensions Act. The Minister-in-Charge of Pensions, Sir R. Heatoa Rhodes, said that a bill was being prepared giving effect to certain recommendations of the War Pensions Commission's report, publication of which has been pressed for by the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association. The Minister stated that the report would' be published when the bill came down. To-day the Hon. C. J. Parr said in the House of Representatives that the pensions of incapacitated soldiers and the widows of deceased soldiers are to be increased, and legislation is to be introduced granting a further outlay of between £50,000 and £60,000 a year.
